Did you know that a simple clay stove can combat deforestation, poverty and health problems?

In Burundi, 90 percent of the population make food with wood or charcoal, typically derived from local forests. The growing wood precipitation puts a massive pressure on the country's vulnerable natural resources.

By building energy-saving stoves in Burundi, Imagine Burundi is working to stop forest felling and reduce erosion while reducing lung diseases as well as the consumption of wood burning. Kitchen smoke from traditional cooking over fire in small huts is one of the biggest killers in Burundi with women and children as the most vulnerable.

Imagine Burundi's environmentally-friendly clay stoves shut the smoke inside a combustion chamber and emit it through a chimney made of hollowed-out banana trunks. In addition to improving the health of women and children significantly, families also achieve economical savings, as the ovens use approx. 30% less wood, and the time spent on cooking is reduced by approx.. 50%, which means that women in particular get more time for other activities.

Imagine Burundi has clay-stoves teams that have extensive experience in building stoves. The teams are able to construct ovens with up to three hotplates.

Imagine Burundi is available to private individuals, companies and NGOs who wish to install the stoves. We can handle orders of any size, from an oven to equip a whole village with ovens.
